Japanese made easy

December 3, 2007 · Leave a Comment

It is not easy to learn Japanese, both grammar and kanji are killing me. Thus, I have tried to make it simpler. How?

1. Well, just learn it when sighseeing and looking at the map. Since all the station names are in kanji, just figure out one by one. Looking at the map would also help. It is really fun to figure out the names, such as big field, happiness, mountain onlookers and many others that are nature related.

2. Read simple text/ stories. Reading stories would help the memory works better than reading a simple sentence.

3. Practice. Every new kanji found, write, re-write, re-write and re-write. Practice speaking the sentences. Just be bold, found anyone on the street, the sales-girl and anybody whom you can strike conversation with.

4. Listen. Listen to music, tv would help a little. But it would be a little harder as the sentences are much longer, since the grammar level is still yet to standard, may be difficult to figure out.

5. Watch.  Just enjoy it.

yeah. I guess that is the secret of learning a new language. Just enjoy it. :D

weekend update

Hehhehe, so what happened this week? Singapore embassy was organising a lunch end of year party at Prince Hotel Tokyo. Since invitation was extended to all singaporeans and SPR, all of us came. It was indeed rare to meet people who are closer to us. It was indeed a good time. Errr, I guess it was also because of the food. Hua… I was so happy that I could eat laksa, chicken rice, chinese food, durian ice cream, fruits and many other foods other than japanese cuisine. :D

After the event, we went to Ueno. It was my second time there. Ueno is a nice place to visit. The lucky thing was when we reached the station, there was a booth advertising Aomori. It was the next destination that we would like to visit this end of the month. Thus, we just took all the relevant browsers/ booklets. Let me tell you one thing, I think Japanese is one of the country that create so much waste. All the booklets are not only free, but it comes with many types and all with high quality papers. When I saw that, my heart pained. All these papers will oneday or very soon rather will occupy the recycled bins.

Thereafter, we went to Ueno. It has a stretch of traditional shopping district and the price is relatively cheaper. It was a nice stroll, away from the normal shopping malls with branded stuff and unaffordable price tag!

Oh ya, we visited this liquor store and my friends were expecting me to buy a bottle. Hehehe… but let me tell you, even though I was supposed to buy a bottle of liquor, I ended up buying 250g of tea leaves!
